The view from my office today…Awake at 4:45 for a 6am call time, I assisted Mike Sugrue on an editorial shoot for Field and Stream Magazine this morning. Here are a few behind-the-scenes shots I fired off…
On my way to meet Mike at his hotel, I was fortunate enough to watch sunrise from the Wal★Mart parking lot.
Drove about 20min. out Hwy. 180 to find this field and view.
Since Mike is traveling quite a bit to shoot a series of portraits for Field and Stream, he is renting gear along the way. We had three ProFoto Pro-7b packs, with extra batteries, four heads, a five foot octa box and stands for everything.
Who needs sand bags when you have rope and logs…
The kit was supposed to include a five foot octa and a smaller square soft box as well…upon opening the bag we discovered only one octa box with an extender to make it a 6-7′ box. We took the extra, larger difusion panel, tied it between two stands and put a light behind it. Instant soft, light source, no speed-ring requited.
Mike getting through the first look. For those of you who are so inclined to know…He is shooting on a Canon 5D Mk?? and using Carl Zeiss primes…
This guy had the rack from a 13 point Elk. It was truly beautiful, the largest I have ever seen…
A small easy-going production. 6am call, location ~20min away, finished with shooting, breakfast and gear unloaded by 10am, not a bad way to spend the morning.
