I have been falling a little behind in my blogging lately (or at least jumping out of order a little bit). For those of you who are regular readers, you know I just returned from shooting yet another Ragnar Relay; this time in Northern California’s wine country. Hit the link for a few of my favorite’s from the weekend…
For the sake of ease and my personal sanity, I will post them in the order taken. The above image is from about 5am at the start line…at least the dog owner (or original stepper) put out a sign…
The San Francisco Bay is a beautiful place early in the morning
Early start ~6-7am…it wouldn’t be Ragnar without a guy in a banana suit…
Runners on leg #1 running from the presidio to the Golden Gate Bridge. This is a daylight sync with on camera flash…
Tourists made this leg interesting…
So did the wolf hat and kilt wearing runners…
The lines make this an interesting location to shoot as well. Couldn’t have asked for more from the fog, perfectly covering the top of the bridge without getting so low as to ruin my shot…and as Matt Beaty of Vault Photography would say, “clouds (fog) is God’s softbox.”
Jump for joy, less than one mile to go on fabulous leg #1
For some reason Ragnar runners really like to jump while running…I don’t get it, then again I don’t get why anyone would want to run all night long (photographing it seems better to me somehow)
One of the things I miss about living in Northern California are the rural parts…
Eventually, it was the middle of the night and the runners had made it to exchange…well I actually have lost track at this point…but the action continued…
After three or four hours sleep, we were back on the trail through the Napa Valley, and lots of vineyards.
Runners in the same location as above…
At this point it was time to set up the finish line photo booth. I sent Taja Cantlon (my fellow photographer) to shoot the course all afternoon. Meanwhile I shot all 350ish teams as they crossed the finish…My camera smelled like Champagne after this one…
Thanks for viewing and be sure to stay tuned for a camera collection update (I promise) as well as more, more, more!
