Orange Decay Update…

For those of you who follow this blog closely you may remember about two months ago I posted a ‘photo of the day’ diptych of an orange peel. Check out the original post here… Since that time I had pretty much forgotten that the franken-orange even existed, I figured I threw it away…Today I was digging around my room and found it, still intact and even more petrified…

It had fallen off the window sill where the photos were taken and behind the adjacent radiator. Apparently sitting underneath the radiator totally dried it up and mummified the peel.  This is it just over two months later. Just though you should know…

Kaleidoscope Fun…

Recently a good friend sent me a small kaleidoscope as a graduation present. It is fun to look through and being me, I had to find a way to shoot a camera through it…so I did. Here are a few of the images taken through it.  Continue reading

Photos I Didn’t Take (preview)

Despite the name of this post I did take these photos, although not intentionally…I carry my camera just about everywhere with me, “never leave home without it” kind of thing. If I am out and about without a camera it makes me feel awkward; forget a smile, you’re never fully dressed without a camera…Not just having a camera, but having it on, exposure set and ready to shoot is quite important, I know that one day a Big-Foot will jump out and I will be  millionaire (maybe). A symptom of this is that the shutter will periodically hit my side, or bump into something and take a photo without my knowledge, it’s a photo I didn’t take…Hit the link to read more and see some examples… Continue reading

Lens Baby

Today, I received a new Lens Baby, Muse. (Thanks to Uncle Tom and Aunt June for the graduation gift) Lens Baby lenses are selective focus lenses for your SLR camera. Basically, they are cheap, fun tilt-shift lenses; great for experimental and art photography. Excited to play with my new toy, I headed out on a walk with My-Friend-Bob-Smith-Who-Lives-Downstairs, his girl friend Megan and their dog J.B. JLS 231 Feature Story

Twelve passengers with cameras blazing, fly down the Colorado River in a 16’ party boat. Although this has the appearance of just another spring break style trip it is anything but. The Tourists are not just capturing blurry snap shots of the fast moving water; but HD video of it, sharp still images and live blogging about the whole thing via 3G Internet service. This eclectic group of photographers, videographers, models, musicians and other creative types is a part of something bigger; they are, according to the mission statement on their website, collaboratively driving the cutting-edge of new media convergence. Pushing themselves and the artistic community to greater creative heights, while improving and sustaining their craft. This is The Visual Collective, a creative consortium, and they are constantly producing lots of great multimedia content for an eager Internet audience. Hit the link to read more… Continue reading

Royal Enfield Blog Feature

enfield in la

About two weeks ago I flew out to L.A. to shoot behind the scenes photos for Royal Enfield Motorcycles as their product was featured on Jay Leno’s very popular web series “Jay Leno’s Garage.” For those who don’t know, Jay Leno has a legendary automobile collection. It takes up several buildings and features many unique and one of a kind cars, motorcycles and steam engines. The photos from that day have been taking over the blogosphere and today, Taylor Mahoney Photography was featured on David Blasco’s blog, royalenfields.com. David is the former photo editor of the Miami Herald, and now writes a blog dedicated to his other passion, Royal Enfield Motorcycles. Hit the link  to visit David’s blog and see some of my photos from the shoot, enjoy. Link to davids blog.

For those of you out there who have followed this blog or my photography with some regularity will know that I am a member of thevisualCollective. Our group travels to various locations and produces a bunch of great content. Everyone from photographers and videographers to models, musicians and anyone with the desire for a creative adventure is welcome. We just wrapped our Zion National Park trip, which was amazing and there will be a ton of great stuff to come soon from myself and the other 12 travelers. For me one of my favorite things to do on these trips is to take daily portraits of everyone at camp in the evening. you can see the ones from Death Valley National Park here… Beyond being fun, I hope to document our locations, change in looks i.e. getting dirtier, and just show the group out in the world. They are shot quickly and no one does any real prep for the shoots.

This time around we had a lot more people and a few more days/locations. I will dedicate the rest of this post to photos with a little description. Some Scanned Snaps

I spent the day in the photo lab at school digitizing some negatives. Most are from summer 2010, a few are from this spring, all are, in my opinion, fun. Although they may be grainy, have some spots and scratches, focus issues etc. Perhaps that is part of what gives film it’s life and unique feeling. Hit the link below the photo to see what I did this afternoon…
