Holiday Photo Essays

This wasn’t a very busy week in news (at least around Flagstaff) This did however, provide the opportunity to take a little more time with the couple of assignments I did have  and produce short photo essays to accompany them (rather and the more typical one off photo). First off, I looked at the Northern Arizona Law Enforcement Toy Drive. Then on Christmas day, went around with a reporter and talked to people that were traveling by various means over the holiday. Both were interesting ways to spend a day, links to the original stories are here and here…Click the first image to enter the slide show and see captions…

Winding down December

Basketball season is heating up even as the temperatures around Flagstaff drop. With three high schools (six teams) and NAU (two teams), basketball is pretty much non-stop. As such, I have included quite a few shots of that…I also took a tour of a new lumber mill that has opened in Williams, Ariz. (about 30 min. west of Flagstaff). Newpac Fibre is bringing industry jobs to the area, which was formerly a logging king. The photo essay follows basketball…

The Last Week? I think…

A weekly update for you my little droogies. Some stuff from the last week. Perhaps nothing earth shattering but it is what I did…I have been feeling better about my sports shots lately, I do after all shoot a lot of them. Click on an image to enter the slide show and see caption info.

Some More Newish Stuff

In trying to keep this blog idea rolling, here are some favorites from the past two weeks or so at the Daily Sun. Surprisingly there are quite a few sports shots here, humm. If I can get some prints scanned, I may share some personal stuff too…Please click on an image to enter the slide show and see caption info.

In other news, my Nikon D300s decided to start communicating with cpu enabled lenses again today, for no apparent reason…

The last three weeks or so

I really do want to try and get a post like this up each week, haven’t quite been able to yet, but I’m working on it…For your consideration, here are a few favorites from the past three weeks or so. Click on an image to enter the slide show and view caption info etc etc…Enjoy.

Some additional features and stuff

A few shots from the last month or so, everything from portrait, to feature and even some sports shots that I don’t hate…make sure to click on an image to enter the slideshow and show caption info.

A Few Fine Features

A selection of feature shots from the last month or so taken around Flagstaff…Enjoy.

Forest Thinning

In an attempt to keep the ball rolling, here is another slideshow from a recent assignment I shot for the Arizona Daily Sun…State and local crews are working on a few sizable forest thinning projects in the Flagstaff area. Some residents see trucks full of logs coming out of the forest and fear that  the thinning has gone too far and is more like a clear cut.

Unfortunately the article kind of spins it this way, which couldn’t be further from the truth. The thinning of sick, dead and over crowded Ponderosas is necessary for forest health and to help reduce the risk from wildfire. Our forests are far too dense from generations of mismanagement, a forest floor covered in pine needles is bad, there needs to be open space, grasses and flowers too. Here is a link to the original article, and the slide show below, click on an image to enter the slide show and see captions etc…

Discovery Channel Telescope

I promise this blog isn’t dead, I have been quite busy working for the Arizona Daily Sun as well as printing at a traditional black and white darkroom, this has left the ol’ blog on the way back burner for a while…Hopefully this post will be the first of many as i attempt to reboot this site with new content and new ideas. Below are photos I took while on a tour of the Discovery Channel Telescope for an article at the Sun. This was a rare and exciting opportunity to tour this not typically open to the public site. Please check out the following link to read the story written by Eric Betz…

Changing of the Guard pt.2::Week One as a Canon Shooter…

_DSC0858

If you are just seeing this post, please read over the previous post Here…Ok now that we are all on the same page, Ze Going…

I have had the Canon 5dMkIII in my hands for about a week, and so far it is a very serious upgrade from my previous rig. That isn’t to say I don’t have some grievances with it, but let’s start with what is good before moving onto what I don’t like/understand. To save room on my home page, please hit the following link to read the rest of the story (sorry for somewhat poor image quality in this post, all were shot on an old D200 (a basically piece of shit camera)… Continue reading
