Best of News::2015

It took me a while to get it together, but here is the second part of my “Best of 2015” post. Check out the previous post for images of sports, presented here are more news related images from the past year. I would like to put together one more as a “Best of Personal Work” but I will need to get a scanner as I shot almost exclusively film when not at work…Find me in person and I will let you dig through my box of prints if that appeals to you. In the mean time, please enjoy a selection of my favorite images from the past year. As always the best way to view the images is to click on the first one and enter slideshow mode…

Wrestling Santa and Other Pastimes

Lots of wrestling, my first santa assignment of the year *sigh* a discotheque and some other stuff too. Have begun to work on a ‘Best of 2015’ post, stay tuned for that in the coming weeks as time allows.

Animals, Artists and an Airshow

Fairly diverse week as far as assignments go. Did everything from a river tour, more on that in a few weeks, checked out a local air show, toured area artist studios and watched as 4-H Club kids prepared for the annual Coconino County Fair.

Winding down December

Basketball season is heating up even as the temperatures around Flagstaff drop. With three high schools (six teams) and NAU (two teams), basketball is pretty much non-stop. As such, I have included quite a few shots of that…I also took a tour of a new lumber mill that has opened in Williams, Ariz. (about 30 min. west of Flagstaff). Newpac Fibre is bringing industry jobs to the area, which was formerly a logging king. The photo essay follows basketball…

I’m a Star Now

As you may or may not know, in addition to working for the local Flagstaff newspaper, The Arizona Daily Sun, I spend half my week working in a professional darkroom (yes that’s still a thing) making prints for all sorts of clients. Artists, government agencies and other private individuals are among the people I work with. I have prints that are in the Library of Congress, the JFK Library, hotels, offices as well as galleries and homes all over the country. Specific clients that I do regular printing for include Dan Budnik, Shane Knight, David Brookover, Jerry Jacka and more…

Recently a student at Northern Arizona University, Nick Humphries, approached me to ask if he could do a short documentary project for class about me and what I do photographically. After talking for a while, I suggested that while the newspaper is interesting, he should see what I do at the darkroom. He did, I talked into a microphone about it and below is the finished project. I thought it came out pretty well, enjoy…

Update::There was a slightly updated version of the video that includes a few more photos and a surprise ending featuring surprise stuff.

Some More Newish Stuff

In trying to keep this blog idea rolling, here are some favorites from the past two weeks or so at the Daily Sun. Surprisingly there are quite a few sports shots here, humm. If I can get some prints scanned, I may share some personal stuff too…Please click on an image to enter the slide show and see caption info.

In other news, my Nikon D300s decided to start communicating with cpu enabled lenses again today, for no apparent reason…

The last three weeks or so

Winter Storm On It’s Way

Flagstaff is supposed to be hit with what could be our first real winter storm this weekend. I drove to the edge of the Mogollon Rim to check out the clouds as they roll into Flagstaff. Although it came close, the sun never broke through the clouds to give a little color to the sunset; however, considering the frigid nature of this storm system, I think I prefer the cold color palette in these photos…
