abstract building collage diptych

For those of you who follow this blog extremely closely, you may remember seeing the above image a while back as part of a post I did when I received a Lens Baby. I liked the resulting Diptych style image so much I have been playing with the idea more…

I got in really close for these

I spent the last week in Prescott, Ariz. and had a macro lens with me…I have been trying to get shots of insects and flowers lately…I like the challenge of making something (hopefully) better than average out of a very common subject…If nothing else it is just good to show others what I see…Make sure to click on the images to see them larger, some of the detail needs to be appreciated in a larger format…

some summer snaps

I have been out of the blogging habit for a few weeks…sorry…but i have returned today with a quick post of images I captured this morning. Be sure to click on the images to see them larger..

The above image of a fly is something I really like. If you have seen my business card anytime in the last few years you will notice the theme. I love to capture sharp images of insects, specifically flies but any will do. I think it says something about being ready at the “decisive moment” and capturing a split second of reality.

Another bug, this time of the lady variety. These are so colorful and fun to find…

Finally another macro shot to round out my take from this morning. I really love the color and texture in the sunflowers that grow all around my house…this one is no exception.

I love macro photography, it is a lot of fun and really difficult to nail sharp focus without a tripod. However, given the fast-moving nature of most of my macro subjects a tripod becomes impractical. A lot of slightly blurry photos, but when you nail critical focus on the subject it is amazing.

Kodak Bantam Images/Rolling Your Own…

I have been spending a lot of time lately in the darkroom developing film. There is something about the look and feel of film that can never be achieved with more contemporary and accessible digital technology. I could debate the differences and why one is superior to the other for hours, but I will save that for another post. This week I shot a few rolls on my Kodak Bantam. Lots of fun, and kind of odd images await those who dare venture fourth past the link below…

Autographic Kodak Junior Images

If you have stopped by the blog lately you may remember seeing a camera collection update post. One of the new (to me at least) cameras as the No. 1A Autographic Kodak Junior. This beauty is from about 1920, still light tight and functional. How many cameras produced today will still be functional in 90 years? Probably not very many. It was sort of an experiment to shoot with this camera, hit the link to find out why and see more images and as always click a photo to see it larger…

DSLR Pinhole Photography

Yesterday afternoon while laying in bed for an afternoon siesta, I had a crazy idea to make a pinhole attachment for my digital camera body. I gathered the supplies and proceded to make it happen. The following images are what has resulted so far. They are fairly experimental in nature, no sharp focus, blurry motion, colors are off something, but that isn’t the point I guess….

Macro Moments Mit My Moomesa Mates

…Ok so I had to borrow from German for that alliteration, but who cares, meaning is more important than the words anyway…

This weekend I traveled to Oak Creek Canyon, Ariz. and Kingman, Ariz. with my girlfriend Katie. Her parents have a bunch of land outside Kingman, a little ranch called Moomesa. While there, I shot on my macro lens extensively. Spring is in full bloom, flowers are bursting with color and insects are on the prowl. Hit the link to see a bunch of macro style nature shots, as well as other photos from the weekend… Continue reading
