Today in my class we did a demonstration on how to capture motion in photography. I had the students brain-storm the ways to show/shoot motion…Motion Blur, Freeze Action, Panning/Trucking, Zooming, Light-Painting etc. Then we went to the studio and shot some students riding skateboards around the room…

Today marked the first in a new series of events organized by thevisualColelctive…a monthly photo walk.
Besides embarking on Adventures to far off locations, leading workshops, running contests and everything else we do; building a community of like minded individuals who share a creative passion is one of our main goals. To this end, with cameras in tow, a bunch of new friends (and a few old ones) headed out to explore some of Downtown Flagstaff…

Sunday I found myself in the studio with my colleagues Matt Beaty and Andrew Paffrath from thevisualCollective. We had a few friends stop by to have their likeness captured in a photograph and we had a generally pleasant afternoon. For those of you who don’t know, thevisualCollective is a project a few friends and I started about a year ago. Basically ‘Creative Outfitting’ we take groups of creative types to location to be inspired and make art in whatever form that might be. We have been gathering a head of steam in Flagstaff and around Northern Arizona, featured in several galleries, arts & entertainment newspapers and in our collaboration with local business.
In October three participants on our tvC 4.0 Havasupai outing produced a short documentary project about our little group. After months of anxious waiting, it debuted at the Flagstaff Student Film Festival, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Spent all of last week in and around Long Beach, Calif. assisting Jose Martinez Photography on a catalog shoot for Pendleton Woolen Mills. Hit the link to check out a slide show of cell phone images from a few of our locations.
Sunday Andrew and Matt of The Visual Collective and I had our year-end wrap-up meeting. After a few hours we decided that what was/is the most fun about the whole Visual Collective thing is getting out there and doing stuff. So with that in mind we re-visited our founding roots and the three of us headed out into the wilderness, lights and models in tow to see if we could have some fun and create some nice images…

I have spent the better part of the weekend working on a long over due project, redoing my portfolios page. The portfolio page had not only gotten out of date but had major formatting errors as well. I still consider it somewhat of a work in progress but it is significantly better than before.
As such I am crowd sourcing the final editing of this page which has given me major greif in the past. I want you, my loyal friends and followers, to look at the page in your browser on your monitor etc. and let me know what you think. What’s good, what’s bad, what works/how it looks on various computers, are there too many portfolios, not enough etc. Any critique will be extremely helpful.

Just a quick photo update…For those of you in-the-know you will remember seeing my Speed Graphic Miniature…well I found a Polaroid back and some old film (love the web), here is a test exposure taken in my alley…More to come…
