Havasupai::tvC 4.0

And so I’m back from outer-space and blogging again. Although it has been a while since my last posting, don’t be fooled, I have been busy working on a number of projects; the blog just wasn’t one of them…

Now on to new business. A few weeks ago thevisualCollective and I traveled to the remote and incredibly beautiful Havasupai reservation deep within the Grand Canyon. About a 10-12 mile hike in with all your gear for three days, I decided to go light. I only brought one camera with one lens and a small tripod. The Canon AE-1 with a 28mm fixed lens was the weapon of choice. I shot one roll of Kodak TX-400 (my go to film stock), one roll of Illford SFX 200 (kind of a faux infrared) and several rolls of Fujichrome slide film (one of my new favorites)

North West Passage Preview

Last weekend, as those of you who follow this blog and especially those of you who follow me on Twitter know, I shot another Ragnar Relay. This time in the far north west corner of our country, throughout beautiful rural Washington. Between Jerry Forman (my accomplice) and I we shot over 4,000 frames and had a great time. Here are a few of my favorites from my take. Photos I Didn’t Take (preview)

Despite the name of this post I did take these photos, although not intentionally…I carry my camera just about everywhere with me, “never leave home without it” kind of thing. If I am out and about without a camera it makes me feel awkward; forget a smile, you’re never fully dressed without a camera…Not just having a camera, but having it on, exposure set and ready to shoot is quite important, I know that one day a Big-Foot will jump out and I will be millionaire (maybe). A symptom of this is that the shutter will periodically hit my side, or bump into something and take a photo without my knowledge, it’s a photo I didn’t take…Hit the link to read more and see some examples… Continue reading →

daily affirmations from tvC v2.0

For those of you out there who have followed this blog or my photography with some regularity will know that I am a member of thevisualCollective. Our group travels to various locations and produces a bunch of great content. Everyone from photographers and videographers to models, musicians and anyone with the desire for a creative adventure is welcome. We just wrapped our Zion National Park trip, which was amazing and there will be a ton of great stuff to come soon from myself and the other 12 travelers. For me one of my favorite things to do on these trips is to take daily portraits of everyone at camp in the evening. you can see the ones from Death Valley National Park here… Beyond being fun, I hope to document our locations, change in looks i.e. getting dirtier, and just show the group out in the world. They are shot quickly and no one does any real prep for the shoots.

This time around we had a lot more people and a few more days/locations. I will dedicate the rest of this post to photos with a little description.
