I Loves Me Some FujiChrome

I have been really enjoying shooting some 120mm FujiChrome Provia that was given to me by Dr. Gene Balzer, the retired head of the NAU photography program. We frequent the same coffee shop here in Flagstaff and one day he showed up with a large bag full of various 120mm color film. I gave some to my friend/colleague Andrew Paffrath and kept the rest.

tvC Adventure Day

Sunday Andrew and Matt of The Visual Collective and I had our year-end wrap-up meeting. After a few hours we decided that what was/is the most fun about the whole Visual Collective thing is getting out there and doing stuff. So with that in mind we re-visited our founding roots and the three of us headed out into the wilderness, lights and models in tow to see if we could have some fun and create some nice images…

Power-lines in a Square Frame

After sending a roll of color slide film to be developed, I loaded my camera with some plain old silver halide film and shot for the next two afternoons.

I was interested in seeing how I could compose power-lines in the square frame, so began my weekend…

Portfolio Page Redux

I have spent the better part of the weekend working on a long over due project, redoing my portfolios page. The portfolio page had not only gotten out of date but had major formatting errors as well. I still consider it somewhat of a work in progress but it is significantly better than before.

As such I am crowd sourcing the final editing of this page which has given me major greif in the past. I want you, my loyal friends and followers, to look at the page in your browser on your monitor etc. and let me know what you think. What’s good, what’s bad, what works/how it looks on various computers, are there too many portfolios, not enough etc. Any critique will be extremely helpful.

So head on over to the Portfolio page with this link or the one at the top of the page and sound off in the comments on this post…

Slide Film and Other Distractions

As the title implies and as I have alluded to in the previous post on this blog, I have found a new love for slide film…

I have been distracted in other ways too (new glass for my Nikon), but 120mm Fujichrome is just so cool.

Havasupai::tvC 4.0

And so I’m back from outer-space and blogging again. Although it has been a while since my last posting, don’t be fooled, I have been busy working on a number of projects; the blog just wasn’t one of them…

Now on to new business. A few weeks ago thevisualCollective and I traveled to the remote and incredibly beautiful Havasupai reservation deep within the Grand Canyon. About a 10-12 mile hike in with all your gear for three days, I decided to go light. I only brought one camera with one lens and a small tripod. The Canon AE-1 with a 28mm fixed lens was the weapon of choice. I shot one roll of Kodak TX-400 (my go to film stock), one roll of Illford SFX 200 (kind of a faux infrared) and several rolls of Fujichrome slide film (one of my new favorites)

What follows are some of my personal favorites from the trip, there are many more but these are my personal pick…

For any of you who might get a chuckle out of the title of this post I am sorry for the lost hours of your life that you will never get back (not really, it was fun). For everyone else, just know that I have been a little walkabout lately and have some street scenes to prove it. This post is a little all over the place, but hang tough and be rewarded. Hit the link to see what I have been doing the last few week or so…

Ragnar Napa Favorites

I have been falling a little behind in my blogging lately (or at least jumping out of order a little bit). For those of you who are regular readers, you know I just returned from shooting yet another Ragnar Relay; this time in Northern California’s wine country. Las Vegas Street Portraits Etc.

This weekend I had the opportunity to join the Royal Enfield team at the ProfitX Motorcycle conference in fabulous Las Vegas, Nev. While there I got out one night and put down some frames of the people around the Fremont Street Experience area of Las Vegas. What follows is a series of candid(ish) street portraits taken Monday night…
