tvC::Daily Affirmations::Death Valley 2012

At the conclusion of yet another adventure with thevisualCollective, and as has become our tradition, I present you with the ‘Daily Affirmations::Death Valley 1.1’ If you are wondering why the above image has a pixelated look, it is because it is presented in glorious 3-D. Click the image to open it in a new window and experience portraiture in all three dimensions.

tvC Photo Walk::February 2012

Once again thevisualCollective has departed on our newest monthly activity. Cameras in hand, we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past…wait no, it went more like the above photo, less like Fitzgerald…

In my opinion if you aren’t laying on the ground taking pics you are probably doing it wrong. Hit the link to see a slide show of images from this months installment.

Compositionally Speaking Of Course…

This week my students in Photo 181 were required to shoot images representing ‘Rules of Composition.’ A lot of them did really well, some not so much…Busy compositions, camera shake and things creeping into the corners of frames were common issues. They were prompted to keep an eye out for things like, texture, form, patterns/symmetry, lines, depth, perspective, rule-of-thirds etc. etc.

In an on-going effort to practice what I preach and actually shoot what I assign, here are a few images I shot for this assignment. Hit the link to view everything…

Holy Grain Structure Batman…

I like to keep you, my loyal friends and followers, updated on at least a weekly basis as to what is going on here. Sometimes my posts have a theme sometimes it is just a compilation of images, either way I like to share what I have been up to lately. Even if it isn’t portfolio work (and a lot isn’t) I shoot constantly, click the link to see some film recently developed and scanned…

tvC: The Movie

For those of you who don’t know, thevisualCollective is a project a few friends and I started about a year ago. Basically ‘Creative Outfitting’ we take groups of creative types to location to be inspired and make art in whatever form that might be. We have been gathering a head of steam in Flagstaff and around Northern Arizona, featured in several galleries, arts & entertainment newspapers and in our collaboration with local business.

In October three participants on our tvC 4.0 Havasupai outing produced a short documentary project about our little group. After months of anxious waiting, it debuted at the Flagstaff Student Film Festival, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Please take the 6 or 7 minutes to watch it, and be sure to check out all the happenings over at thevisualCollective’s web site for free contests, photography, videos and lots of DIY projects…

Thanks again to Talia, Lauren and Nicole for all the hard work, hope to see you again on another tvC outing in the future…

tvC Adventure Day

Sunday Andrew and Matt of The Visual Collective and I had our year-end wrap-up meeting. After a few hours we decided that what was/is the most fun about the whole Visual Collective thing is getting out there and doing stuff. So with that in mind we re-visited our founding roots and the three of us headed out into the wilderness, lights and models in tow to see if we could have some fun and create some nice images…

Power-lines in a Square Frame

After sending a roll of color slide film to be developed, I loaded my camera with some plain old silver halide film and shot for the next two afternoons.

I was interested in seeing how I could compose power-lines in the square frame, so began my weekend…

Slide Film and Other Distractions

As the title implies and as I have alluded to in the previous post on this blog, I have found a new love for slide film…

I have been distracted in other ways too (new glass for my Nikon), but 120mm Fujichrome is just so cool.
