200th Post…

mahoney_20100918_1065

I started this blog back in October 2010 as part of a project for a journalism class I was taking at Northern Arizona University. Little did I know that I would gather such an incredible international following, continue blogging at all, or even enjoy it…To celebrate this milestone, I want to finish the story that started it all. The Jerome Jamboree Volkswagon Convention. Please check out the first two parts, Part One Here, and Part Two Here…The assignment was over and I moved on to other projects, but now, here is the dramatic conclusion… Continue reading

4×5 Preview

Over the last few weeks I have been working with my Speed Graphic Miniature. Instead of using normal 4×5 negatives, which are difficult to develop, easily scratched and must be processed in total darkness; I have opted to use regular photo paper as negatives and contact printing the resulting images. Photo paper is easy to handle, cheaper than negative film, and can be processed under normal dark-room conditions. The only draw back is that the paper has an ISO rating of about 3. This means that in full sun at f/32 (I always use the same aperture for consistency in timing my exposures) a normal exposure is about 2 sec…These are a few of my more successful attempts, however they have not been digitized very well (somewhat soft focus). These really need to be viewed in person to appreciate the detail, sharpness and tonal range produced by this camera/paper combo…

I am participating in a collaborative photo exhibit at the Flagstaff Photography Center opening April 5th. There is a pre-opening party and discussion Thursday, April 4th where the participating artist and other fashion minded people will be discussing how fashion inspires them. If you are in or near Flagstaff, Ariz. during the first three weeks of April, don’t miss this exhibit. I have a bunch of new work showing and would love to see some of your faces. Coffee Portraits or Land of The Lost Roll pt. 4

On a recent cleaning/organizing binge I discovered several lost or forgotten rolls of film kicking around my room. Here is  a short series taken from one of those rolls…

I love coffee more than just about anything. Sharing it with friends is part of the experience that appeals to me. Here are some friends I shared coffee with sometime early last fall.

Despite the metadata the slide show tries to provide, these were all shot on my Nikon FM on Ilford Pan F+.

Land of The Lost Roll pt.3…FireFly Portraits

What once was lost, now is found…again…This summer I attended and photographed the FireFly Music Festival near Flagstaff, Ariz. While there I played a little with my new-at-the-time Mamiya RB67. One of the many thing that inspired my curiosity at FireFly, was the diversity of people in attendance. Everyone from school teachers to quasi-homeless ‘traveling’ types, and everyone in between. I wanted to shoot a few portraits, so I did…Click on an image to enter the slideshow…

Found this lost roll of FujiChrome in the strangest spot…exactly where I should have left it…Although I could have/wish I had shot many more, patience and weather did not permit this happening…perhaps next year…

Deserted Desert Drive

While on a recent trip into the California desert via State Rt. 62, I shot a few photos. Strange things exist in the California desert, here area  few of them…

Once again, disregard the pesky metadata provided by the slide show…all images were shot on my trusty Vivitar 35ca (which is more and more my go to travel camera) with Lomography XPro Chrome 100 film…
