Electric Kingdom::February 2012

Be sure to check out my photos from Electric Kingdom this month. For those who don’t know, Electric Kingdom is the premiere, monthly electronic dance party in Northern Arizona. DJ’s, live art, ambient light performance, photos and lots of fun. I have been working with EK for the past 7 or 8 months, always a blast.

I usually shoot the roaming photos, another photographer does the live photo booth. Be sure to check those out too.

Check out the EK Facebook page and my album here.

A Studio Session Saved Again(ish)…

If you have been reading my blog over the past week or two, you may remember a post about saving part of a studio session from a prematurely unplugged computer. If not check it out here…

Now on to current news. Don’t worry, I didn’t unplug anything this time, everything went according to plan, except for the amount of talent that was supposed to pass through my studio on that particular day…

tvC Photo Walk::January 2012

Today marked the first in a new series of events organized by thevisualColelctive…a monthly photo walk.

Besides embarking on Adventures to far off locations, leading workshops, running contests and everything else we do; building a community of like minded individuals who share a creative passion is one of our main goals. To this end, with cameras in tow, a bunch of new friends (and a few old ones) headed out to explore some of Downtown Flagstaff…

A Studio Session Saved(ish)…

Sunday I found myself in the studio with my colleagues Matt Beaty and Andrew Paffrath from thevisualCollective. We had a few friends stop by to have their likeness captured in a photograph and we had a generally pleasant afternoon. That is until we were wrapping the set and I unplugged the computer mid-file transfer and lost everything…

Land Of The Lost Roll Pt. 2 – Return to FujiChrome Island…

Once again I have found a roll (or in this case two) that have until now escaped my careful eye for some reason or another. If you study your history you will undoubtably remember a post on this blog a few months ago of a similar title detailing the discovery of a roll of exposed film in the deepest bowels of my refrigerator. If not, then please follow this link to catch up…

Now hit the link below to see what was unearthed in this, the latest discovery in an ever expanding archive…

Favorites of 2011 or Stealing Matt Beaty’s Idea For a Post…

I was recently on the Vault Photography Blog reading up on Matt Beaty’s latest post, Best of 2011 (be sure to check out what he is doing over there). What follows is an idea I unabashedly stole from Mr. Beaty and will present as my own below. What follows are a selection of some favorite images I made in 2011…(click to view slideshow)

This was a quick selection, not edited in any particular way nor do they appear in any order.
I probably have a few more that could have made it in, but this was all put together in just a few minutes.
On to 2012, thanks to everyone who made this year great.

I Loves Me Some FujiChrome

I have been really enjoying shooting some 120mm FujiChrome Provia that was given to me by Dr. Gene Balzer, the retired head of the NAU photography program. We frequent the same coffee shop here in Flagstaff and one day he showed up with a large bag full of various 120mm color film. I gave some to my friend/colleague Andrew Paffrath and kept the rest.

tvC Adventure Day

Sunday Andrew and Matt of The Visual Collective and I had our year-end wrap-up meeting. After a few hours we decided that what was/is the most fun about the whole Visual Collective thing is getting out there and doing stuff. So with that in mind we re-visited our founding roots and the three of us headed out into the wilderness, lights and models in tow to see if we could have some fun and create some nice images…

Power-lines in a Square Frame

After sending a roll of color slide film to be developed, I loaded my camera with some plain old silver halide film and shot for the next two afternoons.

I was interested in seeing how I could compose power-lines in the square frame, so began my weekend…

Slide Film and Other Distractions

As the title implies and as I have alluded to in the previous post on this blog, I have found a new love for slide film…

I have been distracted in other ways too (new glass for my Nikon), but 120mm Fujichrome is just so cool.
