Your Friend and Humble Narrator…

I have just moved into a new place and finally getting settled. I have built my darkroom (for the first time in years) and received a seamless paper in the mail today to complete the studio setup. As such, I did a few self portraits to test the limits of the space. Now that you all know what I look like; if any of you, my little droogies, would like to have a similar portrait taken, let me know…

Artist Portraits

What follows are a few portraits of my painter friend Will Ambrose. The above shot reminded me of the Bad Religion album cover “The Empire Strikes First.” Will thought this was his “I’m going to work at IBM” look…

My Mamiya Mit Mid Morning Meridian

Stopped by the Photo 285 summer session class at Northern Arizona University for a few days this week. The students were shooting in the studio all week and I hung out, helped a few students and shot a little too. Recently I have been on a natural light kick, so in keeping with that tradition I put down a few frames of Stormy outside the Communication building and in a stairwell with floor to ceiling windows… Continue reading

Metropolis

Starting out a weekend of new stuff, some man-made metal monuments.

Stay tuned all weekend for updates, new stuff and slightly less new that has never been seen (like the above images)…These were shot on the Vivitar 35ca.

Just Another Stranger Portrait

While shooting the monthly Visual Collective Free PhotoBooth, I captured a quick portrait of this gentleman. He was standing in our backdrop but didn’t realize it, so I ditched the pocket wizard, opened up to f/3ish and grabbed some nice light provided by open shade.

Big Fat Window Light

Two quick portraits of my friends, Blake (above) and Willie (below). Willie has some great big windows in his living-room with a translucent curtains. The only way to describe the effect they give is big-fat-window-light. There is one set camera left, and another across the room camera right from behind the subject, which gives just a touch of a highlight and helps the background.

Check out some more examples of b.f.w.l. here and the first two images here.

Traffic Boosting Goat…

Following the success of last weeks traffic boosting cat photo. Here is another try, a traffic boosting goat. Enjoy…

Oregon,Tolerant Oregon.

Quick post of an image I captured of the Salem Conference Center while visiting Salem, Oregon a few weeks ago. Shot on the Vivitar 35ca with Ilford Pan F+

Fitness Preview pt. Deux

In recent times, I have been interested in shooting figure details similar to this. You can see more here… I have bigger plans for these negatives, but that project is going to take quite some time. Until then, I will share some of the images I get along the way. Hit the link to see some more… Continue reading

Instant(ish) Gratification and Solarization

Yesterday afternoon, I took a little walk with my Speed Graphic 4×5 camera and some Polaroid type 55 film. I have never had any luck with it, but felt like this was my day, and in many ways it was (i actually got some images). Hit the link to see and read more… Continue reading
