Metropolis

Starting out a weekend of new stuff, some man-made metal monuments.

Stay tuned all weekend for updates, new stuff and slightly less new that has never been seen (like the above images)…These were shot on the Vivitar 35ca.

Cicada Carapace Close-up

Found this little guy (or at least what’s left of him) clinging to a blade of grass at my friend Willie’s house. Plucked the grass, made a little stand and shot it macro style…

These Cicada shells are quite common, this one is smaller than average though, measuring only 7/8″ long. Shot at home with an sb-600 shooting through white paper for the backdrop and a small ring-flash as the on axis key. Nikon D300s, Nikor 55mm Micro lens.

Just Another Stranger Portrait

While shooting the monthly Visual Collective Free PhotoBooth, I captured a quick portrait of this gentleman. He was standing in our backdrop but didn’t realize it, so I ditched the pocket wizard, opened up to f/3ish and grabbed some nice light provided by open shade.

Busy Bee

Found this little guy dead on the sidewalk on my way home the other day. Truth be told, there is nothing little about him, it is one of the largest bumble bees I have ever seen. Thought I would share…

Big Fat Window Light

Two quick portraits of my friends, Blake (above) and Willie (below). Willie has some great big windows in his living-room with a translucent curtains. The only way to describe the effect they give is big-fat-window-light. There is one set camera left, and another across the room camera right from behind the subject, which gives just a touch of a highlight and helps the background.

Check out some more examples of b.f.w.l. here and the first two images here.

Traffic Boosting Goat…

Following the success of last weeks traffic boosting cat photo. Here is another try, a traffic boosting goat. Enjoy…

Oregon,Tolerant Oregon.

Quick post of an image I captured of the Salem Conference Center while visiting Salem, Oregon a few weeks ago. Shot on the Vivitar 35ca with Ilford Pan F+

Sketch Board Artist Video

As promised in the previous post, here is a short video I made for Paul Hopman, an Arizona based Sketch Board artist who does some amazing portraits of animals. While shooting some street portraits, we got to talking and he asked if I could produce a very short video about his art, which you can see more of here…

tvC::Photo Walk::May 2012

This afternoon, as is our last Sunday tradition, The Visual Collective had some lunch and took a little photo-centric stroll. This month there was an art show at Wheeler Park in downtown Flagstaff. Everything from photos, to painting of all kinds, hand-made soaps, knives and everything in between.

As I am prone to doing, I took some ‘street portraits’. Above is Ed Wzientek, who crafts hand-made knives out of everything from rail-road spikes to old metal files. Hit the link for more from this great afternoon… Continue reading

Fitness Preview pt. Deux

In recent times, I have been interested in shooting figure details similar to this. You can see more here… I have bigger plans for these negatives, but that project is going to take quite some time. Until then, I will share some of the images I get along the way. Hit the link to see some more… Continue reading
