Electric Kingdom::May 2012

Another month has flown by and it is once again time to share my photos from Electric Kingdom. Head on over to the Facebook Page Here and check out all the action…

First Frame

Another quick post,  somewhat similar to my last post, but oh so different…While the lighting is the same, the model is different; and perhaps more importantly the camera is new. This is the first frame I shot on my new (at least to me) Mamiya RB67 Pro-SD. Super excited to explore the possibilities with this new piece of gear. Gotta love the 6×7 negative and 180mm lens. Shot on Fuji Acros with three ProFoto D1 heads.

Back in Black White

Just another quick post…I was in the studio the other day and helping this person with lights, cameras, meters etc. I had her stand in for a minute so I could put a frame or two down on the Hasselblad with the digital back attached. A while back I posted about trying to get away from high-key stuff . And I have to some extent; however, like any addict I just can’t stay away for too long…

Macro Moments

Just a quickie today. I like to shoot flies when I can, it is challenging and also could have other artistic implications if you are prone to giving meaning to things like that.

I got this guy to cooperate for a few frames before he flew off. Shot on my desk with a piece of paper,  a 55mm macro lens and a small cheap ring flash. Not too bad for 30 min work.

Pectoral Popping Personal Pundit

A few weeks ago I posted a few preview images from a shoot I did with Prescott, Ariz. based personal trainer, Robert Altmanshofer. While the images have been finished for a while, I am just getting around to posting about it. Hit the link to see some more and get the behind the scenes scoop… Continue reading

Electric Kingdom In 3-D

It’s time once again to share with everyone my photos from Electric Kingdom. If you are new around these parts, Electric Kingdom is a monthly electronic music and live art party here in Flagstaff, Ariz. As usual you can check out all my roaming shots by heading over to the EK Facebook page here… However, this month was a little different. Last month I did a series of portraits in glorious 3-D, which you can view here… These were shot on two tripods, with the focal length marked in the dirt and were generally static and tedious to shoot. Never one to be satisfied, I decided to try and build a bracket that would allow me to shoot two professional dslr’s at the same time with off camera flash at the night club (or really anywhere). I thought the motion and blurry lights would lend themselves to 3-D very well, and generally they did, but the rabbit hole went deeper than I had anticipated… Continue reading

Pano Pandemonium Pt. 2

Shot several panoramic images yesterday, thought I would share them with everyone. They are all taken around Northern Arizona University during and after my classes yesterday. Above is the second floor loby of the School of Communication. Click on each image to view it slightly larger. Hit the link for several more… Continue reading

Some Studio Snaps

Sunday I assisted Matt Beaty in the studio shooting t-shirts and hats for a start-up clothing company ‘Sea Level Sucks.’ After a full day of running the computer, setting up lights and generally helping out with the clients I was tired. I watched Matt put down hundreds of frames all afternoon and needed to get my creative angst out (it isn’t fair that someone else should get to shoot all day and I don’t get a single frame) As it so happened, another photographer, Dhalia Stack, was using the studio facility that day, shooting some photos of Rachel (above). Being an unabashed model thief, and seeing a cool outfit as they came in, I asked if I could shoot a few frames (no more than 12, I only had one roll of 120 for the Hasselbald)…

Fitness Preview

I recently had the pleasure of photographing an old friend, Robert, who is a personal trainer in Prescott, Ariz. He is breaking into the world of fitness modeling and competition and as such needed some shots for his portfolio. I put down several hundred frames on my trusty digital Nikon, but couldn’t resist a little time with the Hasselblad. Hit the link for more… Continue reading
